Let's talk about fragrance oils—because they've gotten a bad rap they don't deserve.
There's this idea floating around that essential oils are always better than fragrance oils. But here's the thing: it's not that simple. The fragrance oils we use at Phat Sudz are clean, skin-safe, and meet the same rigorous standards that professional skincare companies use. They're phthalate-free, paraben-free, and IFRA certified—which basically means they've been tested and approved for use on your skin.
Fragrance oils let us create scents that simply don't exist in nature. Want to smell like warm vanilla sugar cookies, fresh rain, or coconut lime? You need fragrance oils for that. Essential oils are beautiful, but they can't give you everything.
Plus, they're actually gentler on sensitive skin than a lot of essential oils. Citrus oils can make your skin sun-sensitive, and spice oils like cinnamon can irritate. Many people with eczema or sensitive skin find fragrance oils easier on their skin.
And they last. Essential oils can fade quickly in soap, especially citrus ones. Quality fragrance oils stick around, so your bar smells amazing from first use to last.
At Phat Sudz, we're not team essential oil or team fragrance oil—we're team "what works best for this soap." Some of our bars use pure essential oils, some use fragrance oils, and some use both.
What matters isn't where the scent comes from. It's whether it's safe, whether it's high quality, and whether it makes you happy when you use it.
That's our promise: every scent we choose, whether from a plant or a lab, is there because it's the best option for that bar. No compromises, no cutting corners—just thoughtful choices for your skin.
